Permanent Installation

Methods & Materials, Inc. has been installing the permanent collections of galleries, museums, municipalities, corporations and private collectors since 1990. From the installation at a large gallery or museum collection to the installation of a single, signature artwork in a lobby, residence or plaza, we have the expertise, experience and professionalism necessary to oversee all aspects of your installation: communication with artists, engineers, and architects; specification and fabrication of mounts; and necessary hardware. Once the pieces are permanently installed, we can provide the ongoing care that your collection deserves.

Temporary Installation

We have established a professional rapport with art galleries and museums around the country. Our services provide venues with safe and efficient installation and deinstallation of temporary exhibits. We offer either a full crew to expertly handle all aspects of a project, or a Rigging Supervisor to work with your preparators to ensure a smooth installation. We also provide consulting services in the early phases of installation design.

Traveling Exhibitions

From fossils to locomotives, sarcophagi to totem poles, we have the know-how to install the most challenging traveling exhibitions. We provide knowledgeable and efficient project management for traveling exhibitions, and we also supply exhibit support services, including administration, trucking and security, as well as rigging and installation/de-installation services.

Storage

Our heated warehouse provides storage for sculpture and artifacts. We deinstall art pieces and arrange for the construction of crates and transportation to our facility. There we provide safe and cost-effective storage until re-installation is convenient.

Training Workshop

Don't Sweat the Big Stuff is our rigging training program. Designed to teach basic rigging techniques, this weeklong course concentrates on moving heavy but fragile museum artifacts. As well as state-of-the-art instruction, each participant receives a copy of Methods & Material's comprehensive rigging manual filled with invaluable information on rigging techniques, tools, tips, and tricks of the trade.

Conservator's Workspace

Unable to conserve the piece on site? Object too big to fit in your studio? Let us deinstall the piece and transport it to our Conservator's Workspace in our heated, secure facility. If necessary, new elements can be fabricated in our metal and wood shops. When conservation work is complete we can re-install the piece in its original location.

Mount Making

Whether it be WWII relics or precious Byzantine artifacts, we have the skillset, experience and facilities to design and fabricate mounts for pieces of any size, weight and shape.
